Huge amounts of rainfall recently have saturated the ground resulting in flood water making its way into sewers, according to Anglian Water.

A statement from company read: "Due to the wet weather we are currently helping a lot of customers across the Anglian Water region.

"Our engineers are already working hard in the area to ensuring everything is working as best it can in these wet conditions. If you feel you have an emergency, though, please call us on 03457 145 145.

"Our top priority is to prevent flooding to people's homes, and we will deal with those issues first.

"Because of that, if may take us a little longer than usual to deal with problems affecting wastewater systems and sewers, but please rest assured we will help all customers as soon as we can.

"Some of the problems we are dealing with are caused by the huge amounts of rain that has fallen recently, meaning the ground is already saturated, and a lot of flood water is getting into our sewers.

"This means water doesn't drain away as quickly as it usually would. These problems often fix themselves, though, when the rain stops. If you have reported an issue to us and you find things do return to normal, it would be great if you could ring and tell us on 03457 145 145 so we can send our people to deal with other problems that still need attention."
