THE generosity of the British public is simply staggering and a reflection of this fact is the sheer amount of money that is raised for charity, both locally and nationally.
Children In Need has become a regular event on the British charity calendar, running for an astonishing 30 years now.
And in those 30 years millions upon millions of pounds have been handed over to help deprived, needy and worthy children across the UK.
There is a serious question that always must be asked as to why so much poverty continues in a world of which parts are wealthy beyond belief.
However, continue it does and the pictures beamed into our homes on Children In Need night will reduce many of us to tears, while reminding us of how lucky we are – despite our usual moans and groans!
That is perhaps what inspires us to give so much – the majority of those who do donate will be made acutely aware of their position in the world's order and how many suffer a life that they could not even begin to imagine.
Therefore, to spare a few pounds, is a very, very small price to pay for the life they have been gifted.
No one chooses the life they are born into, nor can many effect change in a world where opportunity often falls to the fortunate, never touching those who most need it.
