A FESTIVAL mixing dance, drama, poetry and music will unite two very different cultures.

The annual festival of East West Academy of Culture will be held at Grimsby's Central Hall on Sunday.

As reported, the event has been held every year for 12 years with the aim of educating one another about eastern and western traditions.

There will be a creative photography exhibition, music, Indian and western dance, drama and a magic show.

Dr Sisir Majumdar, a retired consultant psychiatrist from Humberston Avenue, Humberston, will also be promoting his tenth book, Foreign Land, which is a narrative description of the history and culture of countries around the world, written in both Bengali and English.

Dr Majumdar said: "We are a multi-cultural organisation and we promote not only Asian culture but try to expand cultures between the east and the west by sharing the arts, literature, music and dance.

"It is especially important in today's world where there is lots of disharmony, terrorism and religious fanaticism.

"We feel that in these circumstances we should all respect each other's culture and then we can make this world a more peaceful place."

Their new bilingual magazine, in Bengali and English and named Home And Abroad, will also be on sale.

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Mike Burton, has also been invited, along with Grimsby MP Austin Mitchell, who is a patron of the organisation.

The event will run from 5pm at the Duncombe Street venue, and tea and coffee will be served on arrival.

A buffet meal will also be served at the end of the programme and the entrance fee is £6 for adults.
