FREE parking at Humberside International Airport is to be expanded to stop people parking on double yellow lines.
Those dropping off and collecting passengers will now have 15 minutes – extended from the ten they had previously – one the longest times allowed at any northern airport.
From today, Sheffield- based company Vehicle Control Services Ltd will also be making sure drivers park where they should.
Anyone caught parking illegally could face a fine of up to £100.
Commercial director Paul Litten said it was time to get tough on those who feel they can park where they like.
He said: "This is the first time the airport has introduced this enforcement and, clearly, there is a very strong security reason for doing so."
He added he believes the new parking arrangements will help improve the flow of the many bus services along the airport's roads every day, as well as make the pavements safer for pedestrians.
He said: "Until now we've had drivers who've pulled onto the pavement across double yellow lines and in some cases travellers with heavy cases were having to walk on the road to go round the vehicle.
"That won't happen anymore.
"We're determined that our passengers have the best airport experience when they use Humberside.
"By introducing longer free parking and enforcement outside the car parks, I hope our customers will feel safer and be able to move about more easily."
