A MAN is in hospital after neighbours found him half-naked and covered in blood outside his home. Humberside Police were called to Duke Street, Grimsby, at 9.52am yesterday after neighbours reported that a man, named as Carl Smith, was having some kind of medical emergency. Neighbours told the Grimsby Telegraph how they dialled 999 after seeing he was naked from the waist down and sitting in a pool of blood outside his house. Mr Smith's brother, Lee Smith, 38, who lives with him, looked devastated as he talked to neighbours at the police cordon, shortly after the incident. Yesterday, he told the Telegraph that his brother had suffered a burst artery and was in surgery. He did not know his condition. Police later confirmed that Mr Smith was taken to Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales hospital, where he is likely to remain today – but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Alex Mobbs, 26, who lives next door to Mr Smith, said he waited with the semi-conscious man until the ambulance arrived. "He knew I was there and was muttering something, but I couldn't really make out what it was he was saying," said Mr Mobbs. "There was a lot of blood on the ground but I don't know how he got the injury." Another neighbour, Brett Hodges, 22, feared there had been a stabbing when he saw the puddles of blood on the street. "There was so much on the pavement that I didn't think it could have been anything natural," he said. However, the police confirmed that they have ruled out stabbing as a possibility – but that they are continuing to investigate the circumstances into how Mr Smith was hurt. The street was cordoned off for most of yesterday as scientific investigators went in and out of the property. Ralph Bryan, 88, said there were four police cars and at least eight officers in the street when he went out to buy a newspaper during the morning. Deborah Welsh, 53, also of Duke Street, said: "This is obviously quite serious but there is always something going on in this street."
