THE final day battle for automatic promotion to the Football League won't benefit Grimsby Town.
That's according to joint boss Rob Scott as the Conference title race goes down to the wire this Saturday.
Mansfield hold top spot by two points and host Wrexham in their final match, while second-placed Kidderminster entertain Stockport at Aggborough.
Currently in fifth, the well-rested Mariners could face whichever side misses out, in their play-off semi-final matches.
But Scott doesn't believe that will provide his men with any significant advantage next week.
"Kidderminster and Mansfield have certainly got to go for it right until the end now," he remarked.
"But Mansfield's squad is big enough to cope with that, and Kidderminster haven't had such an intensive period of games, where they've had to play Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, so that goes in their favour.
"Regardless, if we have to play either of them – or Newport County – we'll go into that extremely confident.
"We're a match for anybody and I'm sure that whoever has to meet us in the play-offs won't relish that challenge."
"They'll know the season we've had, where – barring one month – we've had an excellent campaign."
Despite guiding his side to the Blue Square Bet Premier summit at various times this season, Scott insists Town head into the play-offs as the underdogs.
"To get to a cup final at Wembley and to finish in the play-offs and have a chance of promotion means it's been a good season," he added.
"We want to convert that into a really, really good season.
"But we're going into it with no pressure. At one point a lot of people were saying that we weren't going to get there at all.
"We've achieved that with three games to go and that's pretty good going.
"That's credit to the players and we're all desperate to go even further."
