BLOSSOM Way must have thought they had a done enough to claim a runners-up spot when they played host to league leaders Clee Bowls in the Grimsby District Billiards League.
Mick Hill (R55) opened the scoring with a 200-120 against Harry Putland (Owe20), before Paul Simpson (Scratch) took the second from Ivan Bramhill (Owe85) 200-31.
Bringing up the rear was Albert Potterton (R20), who beat Ray Charlton (Owe35) – despite a break of 31 – to give them a 3-0 slam.
But despite the whitewash, it was Birds Eye A who claimed second place with a victory over Ray Edmonds B.
They managed a slam, after Bob Eagle (Owe30) had got them started with a 200-165 win over Liam Oswin (Owe70).
John Tomlinson (R50) took the next from Pete Norman (R100) by 200-155 and Gordon Coulling (R45) completed the rout by beating Andy Savage (R25) 200-194.
Simon Timpson (R75) opened the scoring for Birds Eye B with a 200-192 win against Blake Munton (R90) of Ray Edmonds Vets.
Daz Potter (Owe30) levelled the score by beating Ivan Harvey (Owe100) – who rolled in a break of 31 –by 200-175.
However, Chris Fuller (R35) restored the home side's advantage by taking the last frame 200-166 from Tony Eglin (R60) to seal a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
