Grimsby Town at Luton: Jamie Devitt will miss journey south as he prepares to become a Dad

JAMIE Devitt could have been the man to profit from Joe Colbeck's suspension tonight – if he was in the country.

Colbeck will definitely miss Grimsby Town's next four games after the club decided against appealing his injury-time dismissal at Dartford.

Devitt, who has been omitted from the Mariners' last four games, may have been the man to replace him.

However, joint boss Paul Hurst has revealed that the winger has flown back to his native Ireland for the birth of his first child.

Hurst told the Telegraph: "Jamie's not available for tonight.

"That's because his missus is going into labour and he's gone back to Ireland to be with her.

"He would have been involved in the 16 against Luton, whether that was to start or be on the bench, but he would have certainly been involved.

"It's a slightly different scenario but it means he's not available to us.

"There's a chance, if he's back in time for Tuesday, that he could play then and Saturday.

"Hopefully Jamie will be back with us for those games."

Explaining the decision not to appeal Colbeck's red card, Hurst added: "We looked at the footage and there's no chance of him getting away with it.

"We believe what Joe has told us about what happened, but the video evidence doesn't back it up.

"With the linesman being only a couple of yards away, I don't think there's any possibility of getting it overturned.

"It's disappointing because over the last couple of weeks, he's been one of our standout performers."

"We hope to have him back for the second leg of the play-offs.

"But losing him for the first leg is a big loss."
