Police rescued a missing child from Grimsby who decided to walk more than three miles to her Dad's home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 10-year-old girl left her mother's house at 3.15am, but was later found by dog handlers near the swimming baths, two miles away from home.

According to a message posted by the Humberside Police Dog Section's Twitter account, the girl did not know the exact address of her Dad's home but would recognise the house if she saw it.

The message read: "After a lengthy search she was found by the night's dog handler team near to the swimming baths, over 2 miles from home, freezing cold, lost and upset.

"She was returned home safe and well in her school coat, onesie, woolly hat and wellies!

"She probably does not know how lucky she was, and this sort of result gives dog handler's and police officers great pride to see a happy ending."
