MOTORISTS in Grimsby are continuing to enjoy the town's enviable reputation as one of the cheapest places in the whole country to buy petrol. Drivers are paying as little as 103.7p for a litre of unleaded petrol at the town's Asda supermarket, making it easily one of the cheapest places around to buy fuel. Closely following Asda is Grimsby supermarket Sainsbury's where the price is very fractionally more at 103.9p a litre but customers there have the extra benefit of being able to use Nectar cards to build up cashback payments if they want. The Shell garage at Moody Lane was selling unleaded petrol for 104.9p. Meanwhile, at the Murco filling station in Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby, the price for unleaded was 105.9p. You don't have to drive far out of Grimsby to start to see significantly higher prices. The two Gulf petrol stations, on either side of the A180 not far from the Immingham and Stallingborough interchanges, were both showing at 107.9p a litre for unleaded, a hefty increase on the price in town. At Barnetby Top, the price for unleaded petrol was a comparatively high 108.9p. The Grimsby area continues to be generally significantly cheaper than the North Bank of the Humber in a reversal of how it used to be until only a few years ago. At the Shell and BP garages in Willerby, near Hull, unleaded petrol is selling for 105.9p. The good news for Grimsby area motorists looks set to continue because it is predicted that petrol prices may tumble even further to below £1 for a litre in the coming weeks.
