The Labour prospective Parliamentary candidate for Great Grimsby has been handed a £10,000 election boost.
Melanie Onn, who is vying to take the retiring Austin Mitchell's long held seat, was one of 30 Labour candidates to receive a share of £300,000.
Donor Lord Oakeshott said he wanted to prevent a Conservative and UKIP coalition following the General Election in May.
The former Liberal Democrat peer, a close ally of Vince Cable, gave a further £300,000 split between 15 Lib Dem MPs and candidates.
Lord Oakeshott told the Financial Times: "Many Lib Dem and Labour candidates tell me the Tories have spent over £100,000 campaigning against them, even before the official election campaign – and spending limits – started in December.
"I've taken a leave of absence from the Lords and am just a non-party social democrat now, but I want to help save our country from a Tory Government cringing to UKIP."
A Labour Party spokesperson said: "The Labour Party declares donations to the Electoral Commission in the normal way in accordance with the rules."
