BRITISH Gas announced today it will reduce its gas prices by five per cent - but are holding off reductions just weeks before the end of winter.
The company Britain's biggest energy supplier has said the price cut for its 15.7million customers will apply from February 27, cutting annual energy bills on average by £37.
British Gas said the cut reflected the recent fall in wholesale gas prices and comes after energy suppliers have come under pressure from politicians and regulators to pass on lower costs to households.
E.on last week announced it is cutting its standard gas tariff for its 4.5million customers by 3.5 per cent, which equates to a saving of £24 a year.
Other power giants are expected to follow suit with similar reductions by the end of this week.
