GRIMSBY Town could be in line for a further cash boost as part of Ryan Bennett's money-spinning transfer over five years ago.
Director John Fenty has revealed that the club went to court this week over payments that they believe are owed to them by Peterborough United as part of the deal which saw former Town defender Bennett sold to Norwich City for around £3-million in 2012.
As reported, the Mariners' youngest ever captain swapped Blundell Park for London Road in 2009 – initially on loan, before joining United permanently after the turn of the year.
That move netted Town a six-figure windfall as part of a sell-on clause, but Fenty believes the club could still be owed as much as £48,000.
Speaking to the Telegraph following the club's AGM yesterday, Fenty explained: "We had a 25 per cent sell-on as part of the deal that saw Ryan move to Peterborough.
"Our interpretation of this sell-on is that we enjoy the collective proceeds related to the payments that Norwich City have made to Peterborough.
"There is some wording in the contract that is deemed dubious because there's a challenge from Peterborough that they don't want to uphold these payments.
"We've been to arbitration, during this week, and it will come down to a judge's decision, based on his interpretation of the case before him. They made their representations and we made ours and we'll have to wait and see what the outcome is.
"It will literally come down to one person's decision," added Fenty, who was unanimously re-elected as a director at yesterday's meeting.
"My view is that if we get something, it's a bonus, if we don't, it won't have cost us anything.
"It could be anywhere between nil and £48,000."
