CHLOE Osborne produced a great performance to win the award for best all-round girl competitor in her age group at the National Junior Games.

The Games, held at Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire, are for young people aged from 11 to 18 with a physical disability.

The event attracts entries from across the UK.

Osborne, 14, a pupil at John Whitgift Academy School, has spina bifida. She competed in the Girls Group A wheelchair class (for athletes aged 11-14).

In her main sport, table tennis, she faced four competitors and strolled to the title, remarkably winning for the fifth year in a row, having been allowed to compete as a 10-year-old.

She reaped the rewards of training at Sheffield and Hull as part of the regional development table tennis squad, and sessions at Grimsby run by the NE Lincs Disability Sports Forum and the Grimsby, Cleethorpes & District Table Tennis Association.

She added to this with a hat-trick of field athletic titles in the throwing events.

Osborne repeated her wins of the previous year in shot putt and discus and improved on her second place in the javelin to complete the trio.

A feature of her performance was the increase in distances thrown compared to the previous year, including a 21 per cent increase in the discus.

In a hectic weekend, Osborne scored 97 points in the archery competition, finishing second, only two points behind the winner.

She also finished second in the 200m wheelchair race, joint third in the rifle shooting and fourth in the 100m.

Osborne, who was an Olympic Torchbearer earlier this year, is one of ten representatives from the NE Lincs Disability Sports Forum selected in a squad of 14 for the South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Team. The team is aiming to win the national title for the third year in a row.
