THE 2012 turf season is over for Market Rasen flat race jockey Duran Fentiman – and although he did not quite match his winners total of 2011, he more than made up for it with two big-race victories on Body and Soul.

This year, Fentiman had 29 winners which was one down on his 2011 total.

His total race prize money was well up at £390,954 compared with £184,477 in 2011.

In 2012 he had 401 rides, compared to 373 in 2011.

However, the season ended with a broken collar bone for Fentiman.

He said: "It happened at Catterick where I was thrown off three weeks before the end of the season.

"I am confident that had it not been for missing those last weeks, I would have beaten last year's total.

"It was disappointing as the 30 wins had been my target, but it was still a fantastic 2012."

Fentiman hopes the injury will clear up in time for him to be able to do some all-weather riding before the new year.

The former De Aston School student is based with top trainer Tim Easterby at Malton.

He continued: "I shall take a rest. I feel I need one, it's been a long hard summer, then I plan to ride on the all-weather tracks during the winter when I am fit."

In July, Fentiman was on board when Body and Soul won the £180,000 Newbury showpiece and then had another big date with the horse at Redcar in the autumn.

The Two-Year-Old Trophy Listed (Class 1) race was for some of the best two-year-olds in the country, and Body And Soul, sent off the 4-1 favourite, got the win again.

The race, for two-year-old colts and fillies, was worth at least £125,386, and it completed a £305,000 double for Fentiman.

"She is very fast. It was a fantastic two days," he said.

Fentiman hopes to have the rides on Body and Soul in 2013, but through the pain of his injury, he is just delighted with his 2012 turf season that began in March and ended in November.

In terms of prize money, it was the biggest year in the career of the local jockey.
