BRAINTREE'S 5-0 win over Grimsby Town last season still "sticks in the throats" of the Mariners bosses – but they insist this afternoon's clash is not about revenge.
The Iron visit Blundell Park sitting 19th in the Blue Square Bet Premier table, 17 places below Town.
But, for many Mariners fans, August 2011's humbling at the Amlin Stadium will live long in the memory.
However, joint manager Rob Scott insists it will have no bearing on Town's approach to today's encounter.
"There's nothing we can do to change last season's result; it's there for the history books," he said.
"It's not something that we're proud of but we're not really interested in that.
"Revenge isn't the best form to take when you're trying to play against a team – we're interested in beating Braintree today, pure and simple.
"That sticks in my and Paul's (Hurst) throats, but it's not about revenge.
"It's about Grimsby Town winning games of football, whether it's Braintree, Luton or Ebbsfleet.
"And everything else is irrelevant today, apart from matching up against the players we're facing."
The chance to go top of the table, should Newport County slip up against Hyde, is also of little interest to the Mariners bosses.
Scott added: "We can't influence what other teams do. If we were top of the league and three points clear, it's about staying there.
"We're second in the league so it's about maintaining or bettering our position – first and foremost, get three points, then we'll look at the other results afterwards.
"We certainly won't be going into a team-talk saying they could end up 'there' if they win, or 'there' if they lose.
"It's about concentrating on the here and now, and that's beating Braintree."
He continued: "This past three or four weeks have been a little bit checkered in regards to results, but we've had a good away win at Tamworth and a good home win against Woking, so we want to build on that.
"What can we expect from Braintree? They'll be hardworking, disciplined, physical.
"I watched them on Tuesday night in the cup against Tranmere and, although Tranmere scored fairly early on, it was never going to be a walkover.
"We know what they're about. It's our second season in this league, and we know how to try to combat what they're going to come at us with.
"The players are well aware of that as well, and it's just a case of putting that into practice today."
