TODAY we will discover who is to be in overall charge of policing in both the Humberside area, and neighbouring Lincolnshire.
Let us hope that whoever wins and takes on these positions of power does not make the jobs overly political.
These new Police Commissioners hold a great deal of responsibility in their £75,000 per year posts – if done effectively, they will certainly earn their money.
But what of the future of policing, indeed not just locally, but across the whole of the country?
To solve crime, you need manpower – there is no getting away from that fact!
Bobbies on the beat, cars patrolling hotspots and swift responses to calls for help will reduce crime – or even prevent it.
However, with diminishing resources, the above is in all honesty not an option that these new bosses will be given.
Instead they will be required to do more with less ... and all as residents will want to see value for their money, and action to stop the criminals.
So, a tough job – but very interesting to see if a difference is really made and if individuals can indeed find new ways of policing, which will shape our country's law and order.
