ALMOST £400,000 of National Lottery funding has been awarded to Immingham Swimming Pool in the hope of getting more young people into sport.

The Sport England Improvement Fund cash comes hot on the heels of news of a £1 million refurbishment – its biggest overhaul since 1970.

The North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) bid was one of only 21 projects across England to share in more than £7.1 million of National Lottery investment from the third round of funding.

Councillor Mick Burnett, cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: "Receiving the Lottery funding is fantastic news for the Immingham Swimming Pool project. As a council, we are committed to investing in top-quality leisure facilities. We want to encourage and support the expansion of swimming and fitness participation levels and in doing so increase the health and well-being of North East Lincolnshire's residents."
