MEMBERS of a photography group are putting their best images in the frame for an annual exhibition in Cleethorpes.

The f4 group – named after a photographic term for an aperture setting – will showcase their work at Cleethorpes Library, in Alexandra Road, from Monday, to Saturday, July 26.

It is the talented photographers' eighth annual exhibition – and they are hoping to attract more than 400 people, which is their record number of visitors so far.

The group is comprised of friends Ray Duke, Sid Pearce, Peter Scott and Colin Lusby, who met through North East Lincolnshire Photographic Society.

Sid, a retired podiatrist from Grimsby, said: "We found that meetings focused on the social aspect of photography, whereas we wanted to discuss photography in more detail, so we decided to set up our own group.

"We meet once a month and have become great friends and have a great sense of camaraderie between us.

"My photographs for this year's exhibition include some of Laceby Road, where I live, as well as natural history images, birds and photographs of recent trips to Myanmar, India and Italy.

"In each exhibition, we have a theme and this year's is local images. But we also all include our own favourite images from outside that topic as well."

For the 2014 exhibition, Ray's local images will cover Cleethorpes, while Sid focuses on Laceby Road, Peter on Hainton Avenue and Colin on Scartho.

Ray, a retired engineer from Humberston, said: "I enjoy photography because it gets you out in the fresh air and makes you look at things from a different perspective.

"This year, I've taken lots of images of Cleethorpes, but I'm also including photos of Louth, Lincoln and York, so there will be plenty of scenes that people will recognise.

"I've also experimented with using some painterly effects to enhance my pictures."

Colin, a retired deputy head teacher from Scartho, said the group is always happy to offer photography advice to people visiting the exhibition.

"One of us will be on hand each day to meet visitors and talk to them about photography," he said. "We're always happy to offer advice and help solve any problems people might be having with taking images.

"My photographs for this year are predominantly landscapes and cityscapes. I've also used a computer to apply dual toning to some of my images, which is a technique you used to apply in a dark room."

Retired firefighter Peter, from Grimsby, said his images cover the Yorkshire Dales, Derbyshire and Wales, amongst other locations.

He said: "I enjoy photography so much because it's absorbing and makes you look at things in different ways.

"I always say that I'm busier now that I'm retired than I was when I was working and that's because of photography."

All photographs in the exhibition will be available to purchase. It will be open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 1pm on Saturday, July 26, which is the first day of Cleethorpes Air Show.

Admission is free.
