A NUNSTHORPE nursery has received high praise from Ofsted inspectors for its partnerships with parents and its passion for top-quality learning.
Butterflies Day Nursery, in Sutcliffe Avenue, received a "good" rating after an inspection last month, going one better than its 2009 rating of satisfactory.
The nursery, which moved to its new site in September, has 17 staff and 68 children on its roll.
Manager Angela Giles thanked staff for sticking with her during her 18-month stint, which has seen a raft of changes in the way the nursery is managed.
Angela said she was delighted with the latest Ofsted rating.
"The last one wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, and we have made a lot of changes since then in the management structure," she said.
"It has been a long 18 months and for me to come into an existing nursery and make those changes shows how supportive the staff have been. I came in and turned many of their worlds upside down, so it's a relief that it has been well received.
"It's nice to know that there was some method to the changes."
The Ofsted report highlighted "robust" protection measures for children and "continual improvements" to enhance the nursery.
"Behaviour is good because staff are consistent in their guidance and support as to what is and is not acceptable behaviour," it said.
"Children are taught to respect others and when they have a slight disagreement, it is very quickly and successfully resolved."
It added: "The manager inspires staff with her passion to provide the very highest support for all children's care and learning. Consequently, staff demonstrate a very positive attitude to developing their practice and knowledge."
Angela said: "It can be challenging working in this area, but we cannot praise the parents highly enough for their support.
"We have got such a good relationship with them, that might be because we are more involved with the families' lives than perhaps at other nurseries in the area.
"That's something we enjoy because we can be a part of what is going on in their lives."
In order to reach outstanding, the nursery must "enhance the already good reflective practice to include peer-on-peer observations to enhance and extend the existing good standard of teaching".
Angela added: "We're happy with good, but we still want to reach outstanding. We are not going to rest until we reach that."
