A GRIMSBY neighbourhood is in shock today following the sudden death of a two-year-old boy.

Residents in Tunnard Street described how emergency services arrived at the scene late on Wednesday afternoon.

As reported on www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk yesterday, the toddler was pronounced dead at Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital at 4pm.

A 30-year-old woman was taken into custody to assist police with the investigation.

One Tunnard Street resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "Quite often I saw the little boy playing. He was a lovely little kid.

"It's a shame and it's obviously come as a massive shock to the whole street."

Another resident said he knew something serious had happened when he saw the emergency services arriving at the scene in the early evening.

He said: "I looked out of my kitchen window and I saw an ambulance and the police cars and an officer stood outside the house.

"I didn't know what the problem was but it looked pretty bad. A policeman stayed outside the house all night.

"I don't know for sure who lives there but I've often seen a young lad. If it's him, then that's absolutely tragic."

Another resident added: "I left the house just after 4pm and the police and ambulance were there.

"When I got back just before 10pm officers were still outside, so it must have been serious."

A police spokesperson said: "Enquiries are currently being made following the sudden death of a two-year-old child who was taken to hospital on Wednesday at approximately 4pm from an address on Tunnard Street in Grimsby.

"The boy was pronounced dead at Grimsby's Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital and a post-mortem examination will now take place in an effort to establish the cause of death.

"The investigation is in its very early stages and at this time there are no more details available.

"Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances, and a 30-year-old woman is currently in custody assisting police with the investigation."
