Police and fire service officials are currently investigating the circumstances that led to a fire inside a ground floor flat in Park Street, Cleethorpes, in the early hours of this morning.
Humberside Fire and Rescue were notified of the blaze at 2.35am and were in attendance by 2.42am.
Occupants from the upstairs flat, a man and a woman, were rescued by an extension ladder and have been taken to stay with family.
Nobody was taken to hospital as a result of the blaze but an ambulance was called as a precaution.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "The ground floor flat was severely damaged by fire, heat and smoke but nobody was in the property.
"The two people upstairs needed assistance, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to get out as there was smoke clogging the flat below - there is not as much damage upstairs."
