PUPILS have been given a sneak preview of their school's £7.7 million transformation.
They were joined by MP Martin Vickers on a tour of Cleethorpes Academy, thanks to contractors Clugston.
The tour is part of an initiative by the firm Open Door, where people are invited to look around 70 construction sites around the UK.
As reported, the academy, on the former Lindsey School site in Grainsby Avenue, is being refurbished and will benefit from state-of-the-art sports facilities.
Pupils will be using a four-court sports hall, a gymnasium and a fitness suite set on a mezzanine level overlooking the atrium.
There will be two new netball courts, which can also be used for basketball.
The school's technical block will be demolished in the latter phase of the overall project, making way for the school's car park, and work is due to be completed by August.
Scott Clark, of Clugston, said: "We have literally opened the doors up to students and we want to give them the chance to look behind the scenes of a site.
"It will hopefully open up their eyes to career opportunities – there are jobs in architecture, marketing and developing."
Student Jack Farmery, 15, said: "I think this is a good idea and I have really enjoyed it.
"This is a good process to learn new things about the construction industry and I have learnt that there are a lot more jobs in it than I thought."
Mr Vickers also praised the scheme because "it is geared up to support students in the workplace".
"I believe that youngsters should be given opportunities and ideas to learn new skills and training," he added.
And academy principal Martin Brown said: "Students had the chance to look at a real working environment.
"They will be one of the first people to go on the first floor of the building.
"It will be great for those students who are interested in the industry and they will get the chance to learn more and ask questions about the build."
