ACTION is being taken by North East Lincolnshire Council to move on travellers who have set up camp on Scartho Top. As reported, around six vans arrived on the grassed area adjacent to the hospital gate, off Matthew Telford Park, last night. An NELC spokesman said: "A small group of travellers arrived on council-owned land near Ferriby Lane at Scartho Top on Sunday. "The group will be issued with a Notice of Direction to leave the site. "They will be summonsed to appear before Grimsby Magistrates' Court later this week if they remain on site. "A statutory welfare check was carried out this morning (Monday). "The law allows the council to move people on when they set up camp on land without permission, regardless of who they are. "This is the most effective legal course of action available and we follow this process whenever there is an unauthorised encampment on council land."
