HUNDREDS of shoppers descended on the Asda store in Grimsby this morning hoping to find some christmas bargains.

They were taking part in what is known as 'Black Friday', an American craze that offers cut-price items in time for the festive period.

A number of mystery items were shelved behind black bin liners, and shoppers queued up from as early as 7am this morning.

Shopper Tabatha Richardson, who queued up from 7.30am, saw the events unfold.

She said: "People were already queueing up by the time I arrived. Everything was completely normal until they lifted the black bin liners.

"I got pushed out of the way and a man swore at me. Two women were also arguing about something.

"Until you got in you had no idea what was being sold, you just had to hope it was what you wanted.

"But they said you could only purchase one electrical item along with all the other normal stuff.

"Everything had gone in 15 minutes."

She said she found out about Black Friday on Facebook last night. Several other shoppers had used the social media site to swap gifts and to request the items they wanted.

This was the first time Asda held Black Friday in the UK, although it is an annual occurance in the US.

They were offering TV's for as low as £99, tablets for £49, as well as several other items.
