Grimsby Town directors John Fenty and Dave Roberts welcome Philip Day to the board...
John Fenty:
" I couldn't be more pleased to welcome Philip on to the board of directors. We've been talking to Philip for a number of years now about joining the board and now the time is right. He also has a speciality in commercial property, having been a senior partner at Wilkin Chapman Grange, and there's no question that he can be of great assistance in our efforts to relocate. It's an important happening and it's a really good thing for our football club and we're so pleased to have Philip on board. We've got terrific experience on the board and people with real commercial backgrounds. To have Philip on board now means that we're building a really robust team to take the relocation project forward in particular. It's a massive boost to that project. To have a commercial lawyer on board can help us no end. Ultimately, we'll have to get a external solicitor to sign it off, but when it comes to building land agreements and the like, we can do a lot of the ground work – and costly work – in-house, which is a fantastic boost to the project."
Dave Roberts:
" As a Mariners Trust director, we see this as a very positive move. It's all about getting as much expertise on the board as possible an Philip has got plenty of experience in an area that we're certainly going to need as the stadium relocation project moves forward. From the fans point of view, anything that can strengthen the current board is good news and we see this as a very positive appointment. Things are going very well for the Trust at the minute and, again, we're very pleased and proud to be involved on the board at a very exciting time for the club. Both myself and Jon (Wood) have been made to feel very welcome and there's been no barriers – we can look at and see anything we want, which is excellent, and we're looking forward to the future."
Philip Day:
" I went to my first game in 1958 and I've been going ever since. I've seen so many ups with the club, but unfortunately, quite a few downs as well. But I feel I'm joining the board at a really exciting time. The club are currently enjoying a really good time on the pitch and I think we have a fantastic squad and manager in Paul Hurst. I've got a lot of experience, first and foremost as a commercial property lawyer and secondly in running a business. Wilkin Chapman Grange is a multi-million pound business and I was senior partner of that for six years so, having run that business, I think I can bring some skills into the boardroom here. I'm very much looking forward to working with John and the rest of the board. John has put his heart and soul into this club – not forgetting a lot of money. Despite that, he gets a lot of criticism and I'm looking forward to helping him and the rest of the board in any way I can."
