WORK is continuing to take place on renovating a fire-damaged former restaurant ahead of its conversion to flats. The Rafters building, on High Street, Barton, is to be given a new lease of life as six self-contained properties – four on the ground floor, two on the first floor. Work began on Rafters in summer 2012. The building was severely damaged by fire in November 2009 and has stood empty ever since. Owner Barry Shrimptoncorrect said: "We are still working there at the moment. "There is still a lot to be done. "The building was in rack and ruin and it has been open to the elements for four years." Mr Shrimpton said there was no timescale on when the project would be completed.
