HUMBERSIDE Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove has launched a survey to consult with residents on the level of council tax they pay for their policing, known as the precept.
As commissioner, Mr Grove has a statutory obligation to set the police budget and is now seeking the views of taxpayers in Hull, The East Riding of Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire regarding the 2014/15 precept.
Mr Grove said: "Last year I decided to freeze the police precept, meaning taxpayers have paid the same amount for their policing for the last two years.
"I am now seeking the views of the public on whether to increase the precept this year or freeze it again.
An increase will allow me to minimize reductions in officer numbers and invest in new technology to keep officers on the beat and spend less time in police stations. The views of the public are important to help guide me as we work to keep our communities safe by modernising and transforming policing."
The consultation survey can be completed on Mr Grove's website www.humberside-pcc.gov.uk from Monday or by post by calling 01482-220787. Copies will also be available at street surgeries. The survey closes on December 6.
