OFFICERS from British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses to a fight between two women which happened on a train travelling towards Cleethorpes.
The incident happened on Saturday, September 14 as the train was travelling between Doncaster and Scunthorpe.
Officers believe the group, who were all smartly dressed and boarded the train at Doncaster, may have been returning from the St Leger racing festival.
PC Saleh Ali, the investigating officer said: "The train guard on the service reported two women fighting on the floor of the first class carriage of the 21:49 Sheffield to Cleethorpes service.
"Two men, believed to be the partners of the women, attempted to intervene in the fight and the guard also suggested that a third man got involved and was head butted."
Police say one of the men alighted the train at Althorpe and the rest of the group left the service at Scunthorpe.
One of the women involved in the incident was described as having blonde hair and was wearing a white dress which was covered in blood.
PC Ali said: "We are currently viewing CCTV from the train and stations to ascertain further information about this incident.
"We also believe that there may have been a number of people travelling on the service who may have witnessed the incident and I would urge them to come forward and contact us as they may have key information which can help our investigation."
