Time to get tough on Nunsthorpe troublemakers

THE family who suffered at the hands of antisocial behaviour on Grimsby's Nunsthorpe Estate say housing officers should get tough with those who are behaving badly.

Their ordeal became so intense that they needed a police escort when they were recently rehomed.

They claim the previous occupant of their former home in Milton Road was also driven out.

The mother said: "Housing officers should be harder on people causing problems – and they should try not to mislead potential new tenants about the area they are moving into.

"We were told it was one of the best parts.

"Humberside Police have been brilliant. I feel awful because they could be doing their other duties."

The mother said she and her husband, who works in the pharmaceutical industry, hope to save enough money to get a deposit on a privately rented property.

Shoreline's head of housing, Rachel Munoz, said: "Since receiving reports of the harassment this family were experiencing, Shoreline Housing Partnership employees have worked closely with police and other agencies to support the family concerned and deal with those who carried out such unacceptable behaviour.

"In partnership with the police, we are currently examining the evidence and will take action against all who were involved in perpetrating these incidents.

"Shoreline's neighbourhood teams and dedicated Housing Crime Prevention team take any report of nuisance and harassment very seriously indeed.

"Most of our tenants take pride in their homes and neighbourhood. Those who behave in ways that cause misery and disruption to the lives of other will face the full consequences. Once we have evidence to support action we will use the powers available to us alongside action that the police are pursuing. "This may include perpetrators being evicted from their homes.

"Our priority has been to support the family who were victims of this harassment to move to a place of safety whilst they consider their long-term housing options."

If you have information about antisocial behaviour, call Humberside Police on 101.
