A POP-UP Job Shop is opening for one day only in Grimsby this week to showcase the many employment opportunities currently available in the area – and thousands of people are expected to attend.

It has been organised by the Department of Work and Pensions on Friday at Grimsby Town Hall from 10am until 2pm.

It will give residents the chance to meet potential employers and find out about forthcoming job and training opportunities in North East Lincolnshire.

Organiser Jenny Vincent, pictured, said: "Past jobs fairs in Grimsby have been very successful in connecting jobseekers directly with employers, allowing them to find out about training and support available to access their chosen careers.

"This year we are expecting up to 2,000 people from the local community to attend.

"People should come along to see what vacancies are out there, and to talk to experts and employers about their recruitment.

"With the majority of employers now advertising online, it is critical that jobseekers know how to access and apply competitively for these jobs."

A variety of organisations and companies are attending the event, including major employer Associated British Ports (ABP).

Nicola Robinson, from ABP, said: "With all our planned developments over the next few years, this is an exciting time to join the UK's busiest port. Job fairs such as this one are a fantastic opportunity for us to meet the local community, and engage with partners.

"We are looking forward to meeting lots of potential employees of the future and urge as many people to come along and talk to us about the range of careers available in the ports industry."

A spokesman for the Army Careers service said: "Staff from The Army Careers Centre will be in attendance to discus the opportunities that the regular Army and the Territorial Army has to offer you.

"It's an exciting, challenging and rewarding career. We have attended various Job Centre events in the past, which have all been successful in attracting people into the Army."

If employers wish to support this event or future events, contact Ms Vincent on 01472 622276.
