GRIMSBY Town will today be eager to concentrate on matters on the pitch after 24 turbulent hours off it following Rob Scott's apparent departure.
The Mariners will take on Luton this afternoon (5.30pm) without Scott in the dugout after yesterday's announcement that Paul Hurst is to take sole charge of team affairs with immediate effect.
At 10:09am, the club released a brief statement that appeared to confirm Scott's exit from Blundell Park.
However, no further explanation was forthcoming, leading to speculation surrounding the reasons behind the announcement. When asked for clarification by the Grimsby Telegraph, director John Fenty insisted that the change was not performance-related.
Mr Fenty declined to comment on whether the changes were the result of any disciplinary issues at the club.
He said: "While performances haven't been great, we've got to accept that we're still only four points from the top and we've got a really good squad.
"The managers have been working on the formula and we're pretty confident that, in due course, we'll get back to better performances and winning ways.
"There are discussions going on in-house as to how we progress going forward.
"However, we are unable to make any further comment at this time."
Yesterday's events have overshadowed preparations for this afternoon's clash with the Hatters, which will come under the glare of the BT Sport cameras.
The Mariners will be looking to bounce back at Kenilworth Road after last weekend's disappointing defeat to Nuneaton.
But their task will have been made even more difficult following yesterday's events.
