THE hard work put in by the Saltfleetby team seems to have paid off with great reward.
There were problems early on this year with the Island Pond.
But they immediately got in expert help, hired in massive pumps to get more oxygen into the water.
And they also rested the pond for several weeks, which has really paid off.
The island pond is on top form once again, and the results last Sunday were top draw – with the top two weights over 100lb, there were plenty of good back-ups.
Paul Underwood was top man from peg 22, which is not usually one of the better pegs – he had a staggering 136.14lbs.
But he was only just in front of the next angler, Malcolm Frost, who had 129.13lbs from one of the hot pegs number 24.
Ian Sadler was third with 61lbs off peg 19.
So the fish were in that area, and it was again a very good turn-out.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Graham Lavender was first with 91lbs, off peg 19, then it was Dave Dalton off that peg again, number 24.
Why this is such a good peg I have not got a clue, but there is always fish there.
John Keaton was third with 51lbs off peg 16.
So well done to the team at Saltfleetby – good planning has certainly paid off.
Wold View Fishery is also on top form at the moment.
Laceby Saxons fished there on Sunday, and while the top weight was 21.6lbs – caught by Gavin Mcguire – Dave Smith was second with 19.11lbs, and nearly every other angler was well into double figures.
This made for a closer match and it was also enjoyed by the men taking part.
On the open waters at Wold on Friday, Ian Marshall just managed to fend off Chris Mack by four ounces.
Marshall, fishing on peg nine, had 93.12lbs, while Mack had 93.8lbs on peg 17.
Third was Matt Pilay, with 75lbs off peg 26 – so the fish seemed to be spread out.
On Saturday on the bronze lake, Alex Ward came in first off peg nine with 33lbs.
Then it was Chris Mack with 23lbs off peg one, and third was Gavin Colet, with 22lb off peg ten.
The Sunday match produced big weights again off gold the top class all-round angler Bill Sheppard showed the rest of the anglers how it should be done with 95lbs off peg 18.
Then it was Chris Mack, who had a very good weekend, and took 81lbs off peg 12.
Third was Graham Garrod, with 68lbs off peg 19. In fourth was Wayne Childs, who bagged 67lbs of peg nine.
This Saturday's open is on gold, and then on Sunday it is on silver.
Jubilee AC fished the Mill Road fishery on the Horseshoe Pond.
Lee Popham was first – he was fishing paste and corn down the edge for 49lb 8oz.
Second was Steve Scales (35lb 8oz), who was using method feeder on the pole.
It appears that lots of fish were lost by the anglers as the fish appeared to be foul hooked.
Carr Lane AC are at Moon Lakes Tattershall on Marsh Lake – I shall not say in action as many of the anglers never had a bite.
It was a struggle, but I am pleased to announce that Jim Hyde won his first ever match – he managed to find the carp that eluded many of the anglers or made their escape.
Hyde caught 17.10lbs.
Matty Benwell was second with 14.4lbs, but he also lost several big carp on the pole.
There was a tie for third between Andy Spall and Steve Bennett, who both had 12.2lbs – this put Spall in to the final of the knock-out, against Steve Crosskill, who managed fifth on the day.
Finally a date for all your diaries, the Carr Lane AC – after the success of the Lee Kerry night – have decided to have another go.
This time it is a legend England international Tommy Pickering. He is well known and should attract a big crowd.
The venue is different this time it is at Lucarlys on Friday, November 29.
It will start at 7.30pm.
We have changed venues due to many of the anglers requesting it to be on a Friday night, and unfortunately Carr Lane Club cannot accommodate us on that day.
