A man was stamped on the head as he lay bleeding on Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes.
Horrified onlookers watched as three men attack a man aged 23 at around 6.45pm near the junction with Barcroft Street.
Humberside Police sealed off a stretch of the road as paramedics treated the man at the scene and later trasnported him to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby.
Officers later arrested two men in the Blundell Avenue area of the town.
