A 30-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after police seized dozens of mature cannabis plants from a quiet cul-de-sac in Brigsley.

Police believe that the man – who was at a work at the time of the raid – was growing the plants for a known Grimsby drug dealer.

Officers from Immingham and Wolds Neighbourhood Police Team raided the extensively extended semi-detached property in St Helen's Crescent at about 4pm yesterday.

The man returned from work and let officers into a detached garage at the bottom of the garden.

The drugs were discovered behind a partition wall at the back of the garage.

PC Sandra Brack said it was a sophisticated set-up, with lighting, heating and water supplies.

She said: "A male has been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis after about 30 mature plants were discovered hidden behind a partition inside the garage of his home address.

"The plants are at a stage in their development where they are ready for cultivation but they will now be seized and destroyed, so this is a very positive outcome."

Police received a tip-off that drugs may be being grown at the address after a resident reported smelling cannabis.

PC Brack added: "We received information from the public at the start of the week and followed it up with our own enquiries.

"We believe the suspect has been working closely with a prominent drug dealer in the Grimsby area.

"It is thanks to the public that snippets of information like that can lead to successful operations and arrests being made."

Three police officers, eight Police Community Support Officers and a team of Operational Support Staff took part in executed the warrant to search the address.

The whole operation was filmed for the BBC's Neighbourhood Blues programme and is due to be screened in the autumn.

Camera crews for the programme have also been following officers from Cleethorpes North Neighbourhood Police Team.

Leaflets were posted through the doors of neighbouring homes after the arrest letting residents know of the discovery.

If you suspect drugs are being grown in any property in North East Lincolnshire, call Humberside Police on 101 with any information you have.
