A WOMAN died after the car she was driving drifted into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The death of Nicole Jeanne Haslehurst, 63, from Louth, was recorded as an accident by assistant deputy coroner Paul Smith.

The collision happened on the A157 at West Barkwith on November 12, last year at about 5.15pm.

She died three days later at the Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham, from multiple injuries.

Mrs Haslehurst worked as a resettlement practitioner specialising in debt and finance counselling, working closely with prison inmates.

Based in Lincoln, she was driving back home to Louth when her Kia Picanto collided with a silver Audi TT convertible, driven by Jessica Thomas.

Miss Thomas, a project manager for a Louth-based housing trust, was returning home to Lincoln.

The vehicles impacted on a sweeping 'S' bend, the inquest in Spilsby heard.

Miss Thomas said she saw the Picanto veering onto her side of the road and that there was no time to react.

PC Mark Brown, a collision investigator for Lincolnshire Police, said Mrs Haslehurst was "substantially" on the wrong side of the road at the point of impact. The hearing was told that Mrs Haslehurst had attended a work briefing earlier that day, where she had been nodding off.

She told a colleague it was due to the room temperature.

The inquest also heard that in September she had been identified as having a borderline vitamin deficiency which may cause tiredness.

There were no vehicle defects which could have contributed to the collision and both vehicles were travelling within the permitted speed limit.

Although the road had been damp, it was said the weather was not a contributory factor.

Mr Smith said: "It is one of the cases where there will remain questions which cannot be answered.

"There is insufficient evidence to say she became drowsy and lost control of the motor car. To speculate would be improper."
