MORE than 2,000 women have signed up to take part in Cleethorpes' Race For Life later this month.
There are still 500 places left to join the formidable army who are ready to take on cancer on Sunday, May 19.
Organisers of the huge Cancer Research UK event, run in partnership with Tesco, are encouraging mums, daughters, grannies, sisters, friends and workmates who want to take part in the 5k women-only event to sign up as soon possible at raceforlife.org
Alison Mackfall, event manager for Race For Life, said: "We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race For Life in Cleethorpes. But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible."
In 2012, 2,500 women took part in Race For Life in the resort and helped raise an incredible £139,000.
This year, the charity hopes to hit a fundraising target of £140,000. By raising money through Race For Life, people in North East Lincolnshire are helping Cancer Research UK's doctors, nurses and scientists make advances in research which will help more men, women and children survive.
Alison continued: "Race For Life is non-competitive. So there's no need to worry about being fit or fast. It doesn't matter if you walk, jog or even dance your way around the course."
And participants can help out even more this year by filling the donation bag in their entry pack with unwanted clothes, accessories and books – each bag could be worth another £25 to Cancer Research UK.
Alison said: "Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for ground-breaking research but with help from the people of North East Lincolnshire, the charity intends to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured."
