A CLEETHORPES shopkeeper who shared her sweet tooth with the resort has died aged 97.
Nora Allen, who owned Nora's Sweet Shop in St Peter's Avenue, with her late husband Bill, passed away on April 22 at St Margaret's Nursing Home, Grimsby.
Her family have today paid tribute to a "loving and caring person".
Nora worked hard all her life to make sure her children, Michael, the late Trish and Chrissie, never went without.
Her youngest of three, Chrissie Roberts, 58, recalls her parents' shop being like a step back in time.
She said: "All the sweets they had were kept in separate jars and were sold by the ounce.
"The business was great and most people in Cleethorpes knew our mum, she was a very popular lady."
Nora and Bill, who lived down Humberston Avenue and latterly in Waltham, opened their first sweet shop in Grimsby Road and then went on to open their second shop in St Peter's Avenue.
Chrissie said: "Mum worked really hard for over 30 years.
"The businesses were really successful and enabled mum and dad to retire at the age of 55.
"This is when I had my first family holiday; I would have been about 16 at the time.
"Mum, Dad and I went to the Canary Islands and back then it was not as popular as it is today so to us it seemed an exotic place.
"Mum had a fantastic retirement for 42 years."
Nora knew her husband Bill for 73 years and they even celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary together.
She lived long enough to welcome her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren into the world, all of whom kept her busy.
Chrissie said: "Mum was a good friend to many and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
"She lived for her family and was a very proud lady."
Nora's funeral will be attended by her family and friends tomorrow at Grimsby Crematorium.
The service starts at 2.20pm.
Floral tributes will be received at Mashfords Funeral Home, Cleethorpes.
