CLEETHORPES Town fell to a first defeat in five Baris Northern Counties East League Division One matches when they lost 3-2 against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

The Owls, third in the league table, made three changes for Saturday's game in Barnsley – Richard Peck, Darren Hanslip and Lee Stevenson were all recalled.

Cleethorpes started well. Jason Flint shot over after a sharp run at the defence, and Jonathan Oglesby and Marc Cooper's efforts were both kept out.

Midway through the first half the hosts came to life and, after creating numerous chances, took the lead.

The best chance of the half for Cleethorpes came when Hanslip found room to shoot, but his effort was wide of the mark and was a rare attack for the visitors.

They were soon on the back foot again when goalkeeper Scott Drury was forced into action to save from striker Lee Garside.

Andy Liddle's men began the second half with more purpose. Stevenson and Oglesby saw efforts go narrowly wide of the mark.

The Owls then equalised through Tim Lowe's thunderbolt.

Barrett saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper.

But another defensive lapse cost the Owls when a Worsbrough player was allowed room to shoot from the edge of the area and restore the hosts' lead.

Cleethorpes almost responded when Barrett's shot was parried away – Lawrence Heward pounced for the rebound but was unable to connect.

The Owls then switched to a 3-4-3 formation, putting Phil Cawley upfront. They created chances, but couldn't capitalise on them.

And Worsbrough made Cleethorpes pay, exploiting room at the back to score again and make it 3-1.

Despite Cleethorpes' best efforts, it just wasn't their day.

Steve Cooper saw a shot blocked, before Cawley played in Marc Cooper – he reduced the arrears in the 89th minute. But it was too little too late as Cleethorpes fell to their first defeat in six matches in all competitions.
