THREE of the country's most popular motorcycle racing stars – past and present – attended a sold-out show at Immingham Golf Club.
Grimsby legend Roger Marshall, Yorkshire's Jamie Whitham and Nottingham's Chris Walker were special guests a 'chat show' event hosted by former Telegraph racing correspondent Keith Martin.
It was the third show of its kind this year and once again the venue was packed to the rafters.
The stars recounted stories from their years at the top of the sport.
Twelve-time British champion Roger Marshall recalled the day at Mallory Park when he beat Barry Sheene to deprive him of a cheque for £50,000.
He destroyed Sheene's chances of winning all six races in the Trans-Atlantic series.
Marshall said: "After Barry came off his bike and remounted, I saw his dad waving his arms frantically at the hairpin, trying to slow me down so that Barry could overtake me and win, but I was having none of it.
"I just wanted to win, and that's just what I did."
Chris Walker said he was delighted to finish the past season in ninth place in the British Superbike Championship, despite being the oldest rider in the series.
He said: "It's great to still be enjoying my racing so much, even though I'm now in my 40s.
"I also started my Kawasaki racing school this year, and that's been a delight to do".
Jamie Whitham, the Eurosport TV presenter who starts a nationwide tour this week with four-times World Superbike champion Carl Fogarty, told various humorous stories.
At the end of the three-hour show, Martin and the special guests received a standing ovation. Among the happy punters were Paul and Kim Scott, who had travelled from Manchester especially for the event.
Mr Scott said: "We have been to all three shows this year and they are great fun and brilliant value. To get to meet your racing heroes is something we never get the chance to do in Manchester.
"We have to come to Immingham Golf Club, who do a fantastic job.
"We will certainly be back for more of the same, next year."
The next show at the club is on February 1 2013 when the former 'King of Cadwell' Derek Chatterton and Roger Marshall will be two of the special guests.
The club is running a coach trip to the Motorcycle Live Show at the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday, November 24, departing from Immingham Golf Club at 8.30am.
