GALLONS of water flooded Margaret Street, in Immingham, when a water main burst. The alarm was raised by Kate Wade, landlady of The Mayflower nearby. Anglian Water engineers were on site within 30 minutes to begin repairs and stem the torrent of water which flowed down the street into drains. A total of 157 homes had no water until 7.15am today. A spokeswoman for Anglian Water said the burst was caused by a crack in an underground pipe. She said: "Fortunately it has happened overnight. The leak was found and fixed very quickly. There would have been minimal disruption to customers." Mrs Wade, of The Mayflower said: "It looked crazy. There was water flowing all down the street. Most of the customers thought it was fun. Some were shocked at the amount of water that was gushing and running down the street. But it was flowing away quickly and down the drains. "We had live music on so we just carried on." She added: "Luckily they did not switch the water off until we had shut for the night. "We could not fault Anglian Water. They were here quickly. We don't know what has caused it but after all the frosts and then to get a warm day, it has probably caused the ground to move and that has cracked the pipe."
