FIREFIGHTERS have spent more than 12 hours dealing with a incident on-board a coal ship in Immingham  - and they are still monitoring the situation now.
The vessel, which is tied up at Immingham Docks was carrying around 7,000 tonnes of coal which overheated in transit.
Humberside Fire and Rescue was called to the scene at 5.15pm yesterday to deal with the smoldering material on-board.
Three crews were originally dealing with the situation but only one remains in attendance.
A spokesperson for the service confirmed that no lives were at risk because of the incident.
She said: "This has been a long process through the night but fire crews have to make sure the coal is no longer smoldering.
"The harbour master and the ship's crews are assisting fire officers at the scene and have been throughout the night."
