GRIMSBY Town director John Fenty insists the club "moved heaven and earth" in their attempts to reschedule last night's postponed game at Macclesfield Town for this afternoon. The game at Moss Rose was called off after the Mariners' team coach – with joint managers Rob Scott, Paul Hurst and their playing squad on board – was caught up in traffic following a serious accident on the M62 yesterday afternoon. With kick-off approaching, and the coach still around 90 minutes from the ground, the decision was taken to call the game off, disappointing fans who had made the journey to Cheshire. Fenty was hopeful that the match – which was due to be shown live on satellite TV – could be hastily rescheduled for this afternoon. However, discussions with Silkmen chiefs proved fruitless. And the former chairman believes that the clash will now be moved to a Thursday evening – further complicating the Mariners' already hectic schedule. "It's hugely frustrating," he told the Telegraph last night. "At 3.30pm yesterday, the players' coach got caught in a tailback after an accident on the M62. "Since that time, right up until near kick-off, the players and management were near enough at a standstill and hadn't had anything to eat, which was totally unacceptable in terms of preparation for a game of this sort. "We were disappointed that it had to be called off last night, but it's all about preparation. "We certainly didn't want to start the game and be at a disadvantage right from the off. "And so we moved heaven and earth, from Grimsby Town's point of view, to get the game re-arranged for this afternoon. "There were resource gaps if the game was going to be played today, and we were looking to fill those and had willing staff to do that, both in terms of first-aiders and stewards. "So it's disappointing from our point of view that the game couldn't go ahead this afternoon." The postponement means that yet another game will be squeezed into an already congested fixture list, which sees the Mariners playing at least two games most weeks. And while Fenty acknowledged that the situation is not ideal, he said the club would 'take it on the chin'. He added: "Nobody wants to play Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday but it now looks as though at some stage that's going to be the case. "It's a down side to some degree but we'll take it on the chin. It's good that we've got these games to take the place of training in some respects. "I don't see any great shakes to it. I'm sure the managers will be looking for greater playing resource to cope with the schedule, and we'll address that next week no doubt."
