THREE locations have now been shortlisted for an intermediate compound site for the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm.
RWE npower renewables have revealed a site off the A52 in the vicinity of Skegness industrial estate, an area off Marsh Lane near Orby and an area just west of Skegness on land between the A52 and A158 are all being considered.
A public consultation on the proposals will run from February 19 help inform the final location.
The electrical compound will have a footprint of no more than three hectares with the tallest structures being 15 metres high.
It will be screened through landscaping.
A decision on whether planning permission is granted for the offshore wind farm, off the coast of Mablethorpe, is expected to be made by the Secretary of State later this year.
RWE has announced that undersea cables will travel from the wind farm to a landfall location in the vicinity of Anderby Creek.
Initial underground 1km wide 'cable corridors' have also been unveiled from Anderby Creek to Ingoldmells, Skegness, Wainfleet St Mary, Sibsey and on to Bicker where connection to the national grid substation will take place.
These will be narrowed down to a 60-metre wide route once the compound and substation location have been confirmed.
Project manager for Triton Knoll, Jacob Hain, said: "The consultation is an opportunity for local residents to influence the final decision and let them have their say.
"We are confident the sites proposed can accommodate the compound and infrastructure well.
"I think people now realise this type of infrastructure has to happen to deliver renewable energy as we cannot be reliant on home energy. It will create hundreds of jobs in the UK and generate billions of pounds into the region."
RWE npower renewables has also announced its decision to use Alternating Current (AC) technology to transmit the power from the wind farm to the national grid.
Previously, concerns have been raised by people in the Anderby area about the location of the offshore cables coming onshore due to the Coastal Country Park.
Mr Hain said: "The landfall point really is not an issue as it is effectively a concrete pit with a manhole-type cover that is over ground which you would not know is there. We will be presenting our proposals for landfall in our exhibitions and we can receive any concerns there."
Chairman of Lincolnshire County Council's environmental scrutiny committee, Councillor Colin Davie said the entire proposals are still unacceptable.
He said: "They represent a failure by the company to listen and to understand our wishes and those of the communities we serve.
"We have made it clear that any proposal to bring cables and intermediate substations to the East Lincolnshire coast would meet with our opposition. It now meets with our full and formal objection."
District councillor Angie Smith, whose ward was at the centre of RWE's 2010 consultation on a 40-acre substation, said: "I am delighted that after two years, everyone's hard work has paid off and RWE are no longer considering building a substation in the heart of the rural villages of Welton le Marsh, Willoughby, Sloothby and Orby.
"However, it is still very disappointing that despite being given alternatives that we would support, such as using the Wash or routing directly to Killingholme Power Station, RWE have still chosen to try and build a substantial industrial substation in the local area."
The consultation will include a series of public exhibitions that will be held between March 5 and 11 when the project team will be available to answer questions.
