FINALLY one of the most protracted transfers in Grimsby Town's history is over – Ross Hannah is now a Mariner; and what a significant signing it could prove to be.

After a sparkling three-month loan spell, in which the 26-year-old scored an impressive nine goals in 14 starts, agreeing a permanent switch to Blundell Park looked a formality – in the end, it was far from it.

After his return to parent club Bradford City, three weeks of wrangling between Town and the Bantams ensued.

Negotiations were always going to take time – understandably, Hannah's impressive form in a black and white shirt had significantly raised his stock, the terms needed to be right for both parties, plus a shortage of strikers at Valley Parade meant that he was needed to plug the gap there.

But thankfully, yesterday afternoon, the discussions were over and Town fans got the news they wanted – Hannah had signed up for a promotion push with the Mariners.

If he can replicate the form he showed during his loan spell in Cleethorpes, his signing could prove key to achieving the club's Football League dreams.
