A FALLEN war hero has been honoured by having a street named after him.
Parents of Trooper Kristen Turton told of their pride after the new street in his home village of Holton-le-Clay was named Kristen Turton Close in time for what would have been his 33rd birthday yesterday.
He was killed in a bomb blast in Iraq in April 2007, aged 27, just weeks before he was due to return home.
His parents, Alan and Jenny Turton, who live in the village, walk past the street – off Church Lane – each time they walk to the cemetery where their son is laid.
Each week and on his birthday, they lay fresh flowers and a special wreath for Christmas.
The couple thanked family friend Melanie Summers for writing to the developer Persimmon Homes, Holton-le-Clay parish council and Lincs Building Consultancy at Tedder Hall, Manby, who approved the new street name.
Jenny, 65 of Beverley Close said: "We feel very proud. We are overwhelmed. We have known Melanie and her partner Carl for a long time and they are lovely people. We were quite emotional when they told us about the naming.
"By naming the street after him, his name will live on as long as the street does. People will ask why it carries his name and they will be told the story.
"It was wonderful of Melanie to write all those letters. She is a special lady. We are extremely fond of her and feel blessed to have her family as special friends."
She and Alan are godparents to Melanie and Carl's son, Keanu.
Jenny added: "Had Kristen not been killed this naming would not have come about. We feel proud and at the same time very sad."
Alan, 71, said: "We feel extremely proud with the street name considering what happened to him. He gave his life for his country. You could not wish for better."
The parents said their daughter, Rebecca, 28, of Lincoln, was also pleased with the honour.
Melanie said: "Today is a very sad day for the family but lovely for the village that his name will live on. He was known throughout the village. He was fighting for our country and we all feel for the family."
As reported, a street in Grimsby has been named Robert Pearson Mews in memory of the Grimsby trooper killed in 2008.
And James Major Court, off Curzon Avenue, Cleethorpes, was named after the teenager killed in Afghanistan in November 2009.
