Tetney's Ella Henderson is on top of the world after she rocketed to number one in the music charts with her debut single Ghost. The area's first pop singer to get to the top of the charts, it is set to be the first of many for the 18-year-old. Despite facing rivalry from the release of Rik Mayall's Noble England, following his death at the age of 56 a week ago, it was Ella who scooped the top place last night. Noble England came in at number seven. She also beat off Tiesto to hit the top of the charts. It is the first song to be released from Ella's album Chapter One, which is due out later this year. Ella said: "It is incredible when you consider that two years ago I came off of X Factor and here I am now. I am buzzing." According to national media reports Ella, 18, is besotted with apparent new boyfriend Matt Harvey, from Grimsby. She and Matt, who have known each other for years, are giving romance a go despite her busy schedule, according to sources. According to the Mirror, a source close to the star said: "Ella's never had a boyfriend before so this is all quite new to her – but she is really happy." Read an exclusive interview with Ella in Monday's Grimsby Telegraph.

Former Grimsby Town forward Liam Hearn 'spoke to Stags last summer'

LIAM Hearn turned down interest from League One clubs to join Mansfield – and admits he spoke to Stags representatives last summer.

On signing his one-year deal at Field Mill, the former Grimsby Town striker said: "I wanted to go somewhere where I will play and can make an impression and not be sat on the bench, which would have meant a third year of not really playing.

"I spoke to representatives of Mansfield in the summer (of 2013), but nothing really came of it.

"The gaffer has reiterated to a lot of people how much interest he has in me and how much faith he has in me.

"By having a manager do that, it makes you want to play under him and do well for him.

"It's only five minutes away from Bulwell and Bestwood where I grew up, the lads have been so welcoming and I'm living in Mansfield with a friend, so all the boxes were ticked.

"Everyone at the club has been full of optimism for me and some have said they wished I had been here last season because maybe I would have put away some of the chances we created!"

Liam Hearn: Be patient with me – like Grimsby Town fans were

LIAM Hearn has asked Mansfield's supporters to stick by him – just like Grimsby Town's fans did.

After departing Blundell Park in March, the striker has continued his recovery from a cruciate knee injury and earned a one-year deal with the Stags.

Now, he is asking for a patience from his new club and their supporters, following an injury-hit two years.

"Sometimes as a striker it takes a while hit your straps, like it did at Grimsby when I don't think I scored for the first ten games," he told the Mansfield & Ashfield Chad.

"The fans stuck by me because they knew what I was doing was right, and eventually I started scoring and went on to score quite a few goals.

"Hopefully this year will be roughly the same, even if, because of my two injuries, it might take me a bit of time to find my feet.

"But I'm very confident in my own ability."

The 28-year-old joined the Mariners from Alfreton in 2011, netting 29 times in his first season before injuries ravaged his spell in Cleethorpes.

He added: "I have done a lot of work with the physio (at Mansfield) in the summer and he is really pleased with my rehabilitation.

"He's shown me a lot of things to work on in terms on injury prevention and core strength.

"Working with him, I have a better understanding of the injury I had and hopefully now an injury-free year will follow, aside from maybe the odd niggle.

"I'm expecting better quality in League Two.

"But I played against a few League One and League Two clubs in the Conference and I didn't think the difference was that big."

PAUL Hurst is on the look-out for strikers next as his Grimsby Town summer recruitment drive shows no signs of letting up.

The Mariners boss has impressed many fans with his business so far, bringing in Scott Brown, Jack Mackreth and Toto Nsiala already.

But the one glaring omission from his summer dealings has been a new forward.

With only Ross Hannah and Lenell John-Lewis as recognised frontmen, Hurst admits that reinforcements are needed.

"Up front is certainly an obvious area – and one we've spoken about where I'm looking to bring some players in," he told the Telegraph.

"The two lads did well for me last season, but realistically you need more than two forwards and you need competition.

"So I'm certainly on the look-out for strikers, but as always it seems that a lot of clubs are after strikers and there don't seem to be too many out there catching the eye at the moment.

"It's a case of patience being a virtue and hopefully that will pay off in the coming weeks."

The manager continued: "I think good strikers are the hardest to find. If you've got a decent one you're going to be very reluctant to let him go.

"Teams will often hold on to them if they're not quite sure – and only look to move them on when they get someone else in.

"As a result, there aren't a huge amount of available strikers floating around at this time of year."

After signing last week, winger Mackreth could also provide another option for the Mariners up front.

Hurst added: "I look at Jack and his pace, and think 'could he play there?'

"That's something we could perhaps have a look at pre-season depending on what else we can do in the meantime."

Police appeal for information after two quad bikes stolen in Louth

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for information following a commercial burglary in Louth. At around 3.10am on Sunday, a vehicle was used to force entry into the gated compound of Louth Tractors, in Tattershall Way on the Fairfield Industrial Estate. The offenders stole two high-value quad bikes. At 4.25am that morning, a silver Land Rover Freelander, which had earlier been stolen from a dealership in North Thoresby, was found set alight on a track at Stainton-le-Value, near Market Rasen. One of the quad bikes was recovered nearby. The incident is being investigated alongside an attempted burglary that took place shortly before 3am the same night at a premises on Manby Road in Legbourne. A vehicle was used to ram the security gates but it is not believed anything was stolen. A red Volvo S224, which was stolen at the same time as the Freelander, has since been recovered. But a third vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Passat, is still missing. Police are appealing to any witnesses who saw any of the three vehicles in the vicinity of Legbourne, Louth or the Market Rasen area to contact them. Anyone with information should contact police by dialling 101, and quoting the incident number 104 of Sunday, June 15.

Grimsby woman says she is not potty and she can hear unexplained noises in her head

A WOMAN who has been plagued by low frequency noise for more than a decade says the problem is worse than ever.

Margaret Belton, of Pretymen Crescent, New Waltham, has endured sleepless nights for the past 10 years thanks to the mystery noise, which can be heard by around one in 20 people.

Since her plight was first reported in the Grimsby Telegraph, Mrs Belton says she has made contact with around 400 other people in the North East Lincolnshire area who are similarly affected.

North East Lincolnshire Council has recently reopened an investigation into a complaint she made back in 2002 about the noise, but has so far been unable to identify the source.

However, Mrs Belton hopes that new readings taken in her living room by noise experts could provide a clues as to where the noise is coming from.

Mrs Belton said: "It's worse than it's ever been, and the people I have been in contact with say it's getting worse. It's always had a beat to it but now it's a pounding beat and it vibrates.

"It's unbearable. It gets right into your head, not just your ears. It's a pressure as much as a noise. It's like a sensation."

Mrs Belton says the noise is constant but fluctuates in severity, and is at its worst between 11pm and 1am.

"You can hear it all the time. It peaks at around 7.30pm to 8pm before there's a bit of a lull and it starts lifting again around 9.30pm and then between 10pm and 11pm it starts getting louder and faster and then between 11pm and 1am it takes off."

Apart from her home, she says other hotspots where the noise is particularly strong include Kings Road in Cleethorpes, Riby Square in Grimsby, Victoria Retail Park and People's Park.

She says she meets other sufferers every week.

"I just say 'can you hear that?' Most people think I'm potty but sometimes the other person can hear it, too. I'm sure animals can hear it. I hear a dog barking and I think to myself 'yes, you can hear it'."

Back in 2008, noise experts from the University of Sheffield recorded low frequency noise levels of 12.5, 16, 20, 25, 31.5, 40 and 63hz in Mrs Belton's living room.

But technicians brought in this year by Northern Powergrid as part of NELC's investigation detected three even lower frequencies – 6.3, 8 and 10hz.

Mrs Belton says that these readings are believed to show the original sound, whereas the higher measurements are harmonics – effectively echoes of the original sound.

And she believes that these readings may provide a clue as to where the noise is coming from.

"Somebody somewhere must know what they are.

"It's definitely some equipment. I think it is something industrial. This is not a natural phenomenon."

If you have any information that could help identify the source of the low frequency noise call Margaret on 01472 827842 after 7.30pm.

Nathan Vear, service manager for environmental infrastructure at NELC, said: "We are aware that low frequency noise is a genuine and real problem for a small number of people.

"While we don't comment on individual cases, we have recently re-opened and investigated an ongoing and long-term low-frequency noise complaint, but have so far not been able to confirm the presence of noise nuisance."

Ella Henderson on top of the world at number one with Ghost after whirlwind success since X Factor

"I'M on top of the world!"

That was the joy felt by Tetney's Ella Henderson as she rocketed to number one in the music charts with her debut single Ghost.

The area's first pop singer to get to the top of the charts, it will no doubt be the first of many for the 18-year-old – who also confirmed on Radio 1 last night media reports that she has a new boyfriend, Grimsby man Matt Harvey.

She also revealed that Simon Cowell, who signed the teenager to his Syco record label, was among the first to ring and congratulate her on her chart-topping success.

Interviewed on the radio show, she told DJ Jameela Jamil, who said she had swotted up on Ella by reading Grimsby Telegraph articles, that she answered an "unknown number" and it was the music and talent mogul wishing her every success.

But, the biggest revelation of the night was her confirmation that there was a new man in her life – although it was "early days".

Despite initially thought to be facing rivalry from the release of Rik Mayall's Noble England, following his death at the age of 56 a week ago, it was Ed Sheeran that Ella knocked off the top spot last night.

It is the first song released from her album Chapter One, which is due out later this year.

After all the champagne corks popped, Ella said: "It is incredible when you consider that two years ago I came off X Factor and here I am now. I am buzzing.

"The support around me has been amazing. I want to thank everyone who has sent messages wishing me well. All my family and friends have been behind me all the way, so supportive and proud."

Ella's hopes of a number one with Ghost were bouyed when midway through the week it was revealed fans had already snapped up more than 78,000 copies since its June 8 release, making it one of the fastest-selling singles this year, according to the Official Charts Company. In the end, the song sold a total of 132,000 to give the top spot.

She told the Telegraph she will celebrate the success with some quality time with family and friends.

"It's a big celebration being on top of the charts. I will now chill out with friends and we will sit and share the moment with a bottle of champagne," she said.

It comes less than two years after the disappointment of being booted out early from the X Factor in 2012.

Describing Ghost as "soulful and anthemic", it was co-written with One Republic lead singer Ryan Tedder, from Denver in the United States, who has also penned tracks for the likes of Leona Lewis, Beyonce and Adele. And the song was written on her 18th birthday.

Ella said: "It is the first time I have gone into the charts and you could not ask for more. I am proud of myself for getting this far."

The whirlwind success since her X Factor debut has provided the Lincolnshire teenager with some lifetime experiences.

She said filming the video for Ghost in New Orleans gave her a "hit-me moment".

Ella said: "Being on the set, I thought 'Oh my God, people are going to see and hear me visually'."

She said it gave her enormous joy to be in the music industry and performing. I love my job and to do something creative every day is fantastic.

A GRIMSBY doubles pair Chris Wood and Adam Stewart hit a fault when they appeared on BBC quiz show Pointless for a second time this evening. A question on tennis Grand Slams left them heading for the exit door after being knocked out in the first round.

Chris Wood, 40, manager at the 3 mobile store in Freshney Place, correctly answered "Serena Williams" to the question "Name Grand Slam Semi-finalists in 2013." Adam incorrectly said: "Tim Henman." Chris immediately laughed at his partner's answer. The show's Richard Osman corrected Adam by reminding him that Tim Henman had retired from tennis in 2007. Chris said: "We both laughed at the end of it. It was a great experience." He added both the Grimsby men were gutted not to have got through to the next round when there was a question about the UK's Cod War opponents. chris said: "We would have got that straight away." Chris has already featured on The Weekest Link, Goldenballs, Eggheads and Come Dine With Me. Adam has since left his store to go travelling abroad.

The two of them appeared on the popular programme at 5.15pm on Friday, but failed to get past the first round.

Chris scored 70 on his go, correctly guessing that "tea leaf" is cockney rhyming slang for thief.

However, the pair were sent packing when Adam scored 100.

This is not the first time Chris has appeared on TV, having cooked up a treat back in 2010 when Come Dine With Me came to the Grimsby area.

He has also appeared on Eggheads and the Weakest Link.

"I got my one right, so that's all that matters," Chris joked.

"But in all seriousness, we never thought we would win, it was all about having a laugh and a good time – and it was brilliant.

"I have quite a collection of television appearances now. It all started about 20 years ago when I appeared on the first ever Chris Moyles show.

"I made a lot of friends there and since then I've been invited back for a number of other shows.
