A man who was due to stand trial for murder after the death of his brother in Grimsby has been found dead in prison.
Junaid Hamidi, 28, of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, was remanded in Hull Prison ahead of the trial due to take place in April.
The body of Sheikh Zubair Hamidi, 48, also from Clacton-on-Sea - who was a British national of Bangladeshi origin - was discovered at a flat in Freeman Street in October.
Dan Casey, a ward councillor in the Essex town who met the family after the death of Sheikh Zubair Hamidi, said: "I spoke to the family in October and they were very shaken up.
"It was a tragic and shocking event for the whole family – and for everyone in Jaywick.
"I can hardly imagine what they are going through now."
Members of Hamidi's legal team went to see him, with the help of an interpreter, a few weeks ago and the defence was waiting for prosecution papers to be served.
Experts had been instructed as part of the defence case.
