PLANS for more than 60 new homes in Cleethorpes have been resubmitted just weeks after being refused by councillors.
The proposals for 63 homes and an area of open space for Hewitts Curcus were turned down by North East Lincolnshire Council's Planning Committee members on January 14.
Despite it being recommended for approval with only two objections, councillors decided that traffic access plans and pedestrian safety were not up to scratch.
They voted to throw it out by six votes to five.
But applicant Spey Properties has now resubmitted the outline application for the 2.8 hectare agricultural land site near to the Tesco Extra superstore.
The development would include 29 detached four bedroom homes, 28 semi-detached three bedroom homes and six terraced homes each with two bedrooms, with 12 affordable homes included.
Planning documents issued with the resubmitted plans said: "Since the refusal of the previous scheme, there have been discussions with council officers to seek to address this reason for refusal.
"This has resulted in the submission of a road safety audit and highway safety review."
The application added: "It is intended that the proposed dwellings will be predominantly two storeys in height with some two-and-a-half storey.
"The dwellings will be predominantly detached and semi-detached, maintaining the typical local character."
Access to the site would be from Hewitts Avenue.
The proposals also hint that the development may just be the beginning.
Documents said: "The proposed development at Hewitt's Circus is a standalone residential development.
"Nevertheless, the emerging design will be respectful of the wider development potential, should it emerge in time."
Councillor Steve Norton (Con, Humberston & New Waltham) previously warned that given the pace at which new housing schemes were coming forward, there would soon be no green space left in the ward.
Councillor John Fenty (Con, Humberston & New Waltham) said when the application was first announced: "This just exacerbates the current situation where more than 1,200 houses are already permitted with a further scheme coming through at Tollbar for between 400 and 500 houses.
"There are too many schemes coming forward that are unwanted and the area could be a building site for many years to come."
