THREE men were arrested following a dramatic police chase on Sunday afternoon after a car smashed into a lamppost on Peaks Parkway.
Officers were called to a single vehicle road traffic collision at 4.13pm on Sunday, after a blue Ford KA was reported to have collided with a lamppost on the A16, just before the roundabout with the A1098.
The driver then fled the scene, which resulted in police officers taking chase.
Police and firefighters attended and following wider searches and investigations, three men were arrested on suspicion of drugs and driving offences.
They remain in police custody at this time.
The road was partially closed and the area around the lamppost was cordoned off as emergency services made the area safe – but traffic remained largely unaffected.
One user, commenting on the story on the Grimsby Telegraph website, said: "They will get fined £50 and banned, even without a licence – justice strikes again?"
Another user, calling himself Mr Incredulous, added: "The road was partly closed while the area was made safe as the lane nearest to where the car ended up was blocked off with a fire engine when I went past.
"The signs that they drove over and are now bent are probably still there."
Officers from the Highways Agency were called out yesterday morning to make repairs to the lamppost.
Witnesses are now sought to the collision and anyone with information is asked to call Humberside Police on 101, quoting log number 387 of January 25. Or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
